Building True Friendships

 

  1. Work on adding value to people.
    1. 1 Thessalonians 5:11 - So encourage each other to build each other up, just as you are already doing.

 

  1. Smile.
    1. Proverbs 15:13 - A happy heart makes the face cheerful.
    2. Smile is the shortest distance between two people.

 

  1. Don't be a chronic complainer.
    1. Philippians 2:14-15 - Do everything without complaining or arguing.  Then you will be innocent and without any wrong.  … you are living with crooked and mean people all around you, among whom you shine like stars in the dark world.

 

  1. Be a good listener.
    1. James 1:19 - My dear brothers, take not of this:  Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry. 
    2. Ask questions to draw them out.

 

  1. Accept people unconditionally.
    1. Romans 15:7 - Therefore, accept each other in the same way that Christ accepted you.
    2. Proverbs 17:9 - Love forgets mistakes; nagging about them parts the best of friends.
    3. You don't have to approve of what they are doing.

 

  1. Keep confidences.
    1. Proverbs 11:13 - A gossip goes around revealing secrets, but those who are trustworthy can keep a confidence.

 

  1. Take time for real friends
    1. Proverbs 18:24 - A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.
